NATIONAL MILK DAY

National Milk Day on January 11th commemorates the day many think the first milk deliveries in glass bottles began in the United States. Alexander Campbell of the New York Dairy Company professed to the New York State Senate that his company was the first to make these deliveries in 1878.

The United States and Australia export more milk and milk products than any other country. Those products include cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter, cream, powdered milk, and much more. Throughout the world, more than 6 billion people consume milk and the products we make from it. One of the reasons is because milk provides nutrients such as calcium, potassium, vitamin B12, and vitamin A.

During the Middle Ages, people called milk the virtuous white liquor because alcoholic beverages were more reliable than water. In 1863, French chemist and biologist Louis Pasteur made it possible for milk and other food and drinks to be stored for more extended periods. He developed a method of killing harmful bacteria that is now called pasteurization.

In 1884, an American doctor, Hervey Thatcher of New York City, developed the first modern glass milk bottle. He called it the “Thatcher’s Common Sense Milk Jar.” He used a waxed paper disk to seal the milk in the glass bottle. Later, in 1932, plastic-coated paper milk cartons were introduced commercially as a consequence of their invention by Victor W. Farris.

Modern industrial processes use milk to produce casein, whey protein, lactose, condensed milk, powdered milk, and many other food-additive and industrial products.

The females of all mammal species can, by definition, produce milk. However, cow milk dominates commercial production. In 2011. FAO estimates cows produced 85% of all milk worldwide. Apart from cattle, many kinds of livestock contribute milk used by humans for dairy products. These animals include buffalo, goat, sheep, camel, donkey, horse, reindeer, and yak. Like cattle, their milk produces cream, butter, yogurt, kefir, ice cream, and cheese, too.

The ultimate way to celebrate is with a large glass of milk. However, a serving of anything made with milk would count, too! Does a milkshake sound good to you?

Static Electricity??

Oh no! We all know what a painful experience static electricity can be. And these ponies are full of build up electricity ready to strike.

In June 2019, Amaretto gave us these little sparks of energy for the monthly breeding. All we had to do was breed together some  Painted Ivories or Star Coals together and then we had a chance at getting either the Craved Stormy Painted Ivory or the Craved Stormy Star Coal.

Some lucky breeders were able to get both!!

The coats did have the ability to pass.

Then on July 1, 2020 at 12:01 AM until July 31, 2020 we had the chance to breed these little balls of electricity together to get a Coveted Circlet – Water Ponie.

This coat did NOT have the ability to pass.

However, the eyes and the crowns did.

So why not have fun and add some of these electrifying traits to your Ponies today!!

Are You Bored?

There is so much to do in SL, how can you be bored? Seriously, what do you do when you have too much time on your hands? Clean your room? NO! Clean your inventory! Check out your Amaretto breedables. Do you have a folder full of anonymous Amaretto Breedable Bundles? Kennels, nests and baskets with no name on them and you feel overwhelmed? Take 15 minutes (or an hour if you feel ambitious) each day to do a little organizing and rename them. Pull some out to check out the traits on them, you may be surprised at what you’ve forgotten you had. I heard one breeder do that and she found a Charmed she didn’t even remember her horse dropped! You could find that elusive eye you have been searching for everywhere, or even some traits OTHERS have been looking for to purchase!

Everyone has their own system for storage. I like to make a folder for each type of breedable, then folders for their drops, folders for each coat or special trait , maybe one for full siblings. Even if you only do a folder for the coat, it makes it a lot easier to find later on if Amaretto names that particular thing for a project. When naming try to use abbreviations you will recognize to include important information on each bundle/kennel/nest/basket, and the gender. This can also help if you plan on selling them, as it makes it easier for buyers to sort through a pile of bundles with names instead of Amaretto Breedable bundle, or even the anonymous -Bundle Ready DO NOT OPEN lol.

Another thing to consider is if you have tons of bundles sitting on the ground waiting to be named and picked up. That is robbing you of prims that could be filled with more lives waiting to breed! So take a little time each day to do some organizing, and while you’re at it, you might find some to box up and donate to AMOC’s next bundle hunt! Happy Sorting!!

PERIHELION DAY

Perihelion Day is on January 4 this year. It occurs about two weeks after every December Solstice, and on this day, Earth’s center is approximately 91,402,500 miles from the sun’s center. Numerical integration is required to make precise predictions of perihelion passage. It is quite interesting to see what goes on in the universe and the planet on which we live. Perihelion is one of those many interesting occurrences. On this day, we can keep a lookout for the big ball of fire being at its largest.

Perihelion is an astronomical occurrence that happens around two weeks from the December Solstice. Even though it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere during this period, Earth reaches the closest point of over 91 million miles to the sun on this day. Perihelion does not directly affect Earth’s temperature; it does not make us feel any warmer, nor does it provide respite from the chilling temperature. However, it does indirectly affect seasons because Earth’s orbital speed is at its maximum at perihelion. On this day, the sun appears the largest in the sky for the entire year, gradually growing smaller through the remainder of the year.

In 1246, Perihelion Day was on the December Solstice. Every 58 years since then, the date has changed by a day. Perihelion Day varies each year due to precession and orbital factors that follow specific cyclical patterns known as the Milankovitch cycles. Another cause is the moon’s presence, which can make the date vary by up to two days from one year to another. While the Earth-Moon barycenter moves on a stable orbit around the sun, Earth’s center, which is around 2,900 mi from the barycenter, can shift in any direction from it, thus affecting the actual time of the perihelion.

In 2000, the longitude of the perihelion was about 282.895°, and by 2010, it had become around 283.067°. According to astronomers, in the year 6430, the perihelion will happen simultaneously as the March Equinox.

Amaretto celebrated our 2nd Birthday on September 1, 2012 and to honor this occasion the Galaxy horses were revealed!

The Galaxy Horses can be randomly birthed by breeding together any two horses that have Galaxy Eyes.

Amaretto celebrated our 8th Birthday on September 1, 2018 and to honor this occasion 5 Galaxy horses were revealed Uranus, Mercury, Neptune, Sun, and Venus!

Galaxy Horses can NOT pass their coat.

However breeding a Galaxy Horse with another Galaxy Horse or with any other horse with Galaxy Eyes you will slightly increase your chance for another Galaxy Horse.

Time Flies!!

We all know that time is a valuable thing and is the subject of many songs (you might be singing one right now). But do you realize that is a fantastic Time related eye for the horses??!!!

There is!!

The It’s Time eye:

You are probably wondering, how do I get this eye? Well sadly you can no longer get it from Amaretto so you would need to try to buy it from one of your fellow breeders. But let’s see where it came from.

On July 13, 2012 Amaretto released the Limited Edition RFL 2012 Clockwork Horse to benefit Relay for Life. 100% of the proceeds were given directly to Relay for Life Fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.

So as the pendulum swings and time slips away, why not go out and add this great eye to your herd. 🙂

Brandings

Something always associated with domesticated horses is a brand. Horse owners have been using brands for centuries to identify their animals, and as a way to help prevent theft. Brands often include initials of the owners names or symbols designating their ranch or business.

Amaretto brands came about during the release of the 3.1 update. The first brands were boot, horseshoe, badge, ankh, skull, heart, hat, and wings. Those have since been put out to pasture but can still be passed from existing lines with them in the background. In June of 2014 Amaretto gave the exciting chance to have a breeder designed brand, when they hosted the Amaretto Country Fair as a fundraiser for Relay For Life. JonSnow2012 Resident created the very first color brand, the Rainbow Star

Since then we’ve had many more colorful brands including the Demon Rage created by Sera Renfew in 2015,

The Moonlight Serenade, from the All I Want For Christmas auction in 2017.

Brands have also come from gacha horses , like the Oopsy Poopsy brand, the Chuckle brand and Specs brand from the Gacha Emoji Edition horses.

Another user created branding from the second All I Want For Christmas Auction was the Dagger of Thrones.

What kind of branding would you like to see? I want a snake brand lol. Happy Breeding
