Interview With an Amaretto Breeder

Happy Friday Everyone!! Hope everyone is having a good breeding day!!

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Arrowjay Resident. He is in the Amaretto Group so if you see him give him a big hello! Hope you enjoy reading Arrowjay’s interview.

Please tell the community a little about yourself. Where you are from and what brought you to Second Life?
My name is Justin and I live in the upper reaches of Vermont State. I’m a military veteran of the United States Air Force who spends most of his off-line time studying the gospel of Christ Jesus, and protecting/caring for those He brings forth.
I was introduced to Second Life through a longtime friend. Initially I didn’t like SL until I was introduced to the building aspects of it, and the breedables, most significantly Amaretto Breedables.

Which Amaretto Breedables do you own?
I mainly breed Amaretto Horses. They have been the lion’s share of my interest in breedables. I have dabbled in the Amaretto and Biobreeds K-9s but no longer pursue them. I breed barnyard birds in very limited numbers…usually just one pair at a time. Some of you may recall the Yumi breedables…little fairies. I tinkered around with those a couple years ago as well.

How did you get started in breedables?
As an SLnewbie I was adopted by some generous friends that I met in a nightclub. (Scary right?) And I was invited to live on their small SL farm. They introduced me to building and Amaretto Breedable horses. Eventually, though, I had to get my own place to live, and the building skills and interest in breedables I took with me. Bri Starspear was my first next door neighbor and an Amaretto Breedables collector. She gave me my very first horse…an OS from her Albino Clydesdale.

Coat: Black Classic Clydesdale
Eye: Fire & Ice
Mane Long
Tail Normal
…and the love began.

Do you own other breedables besides Amaretto?
I do own other breedables, but currently breed only the Amaretto Horses and one pair of Barnyard birds. I’m limited on prim space, so my work is pretty focused.

What special projects are you working on right now with your Amaretto Horses?
Well…as some of you already know…my primary project is my personal collection centered on the Black eye, Long mane and tail. It is a personal effort to breed these simple traits into each of the Amaretto coats…where it is possible. I have been working on this particular project for over three years and have completed 82 coats for the collection. I have also gathered a number of others from around the grid as “extras” for this collection.
My overall effort, though, is simply to produce gorgeous looking horses. Doesn’t matter if they have 4, 15, or 25 traits…so long as I see balance in the traits. It is balance in traits that (I feel) separates a Trend horse from a Designer horse, since a Designer horse will possess traits necessary to create a specific look. It is not a necessity for a designer horse to have balanced traits. A Trend horse like the “Royalty”, “Love/Hearts Duets”, Entity, Vamps, etc. all have balance in the traits. These Trend horses are the staple breeding stock for the majority of breeding projects around the grid. Even my own. IF and when I go to an auction…that is what I am hoping to see….especially if it’s a new breed coat.
Another project I am currently working on is a “Nightmare Clydesdale”…named after the Charmed Nightmare Clydesdale which is now Out-to-Pasture. The “basic” trait set is as follows:
This was a gorgeous creature, and the hope is to see what others can build to closely resemble the Charmed version…or hey…to come up with their own NIGHTMARE! What haunts your dreams? Eh? If breeding horses is your “nightmare” then perhaps the trend horse below will suit you. 😛
NOTE: The Amaretto Paisley eye may only be used in the Trend Horse. The Trend horse is a build that pulls all three “Amaretto” traits together.
Coat: Black Clydalusian
Eye: Amaretto Paisley
Mane: Long
Tail: Long
Wing: Amaretto
Wild Hair: Amaretto 4th Birthday
Sock: Red or Orange OR Hoof: Pomegranate
I say “basic” because the Charmed versions could appear with any number of traits…but I wanted to specify the eyes, wing, and wild hair for this build in honor of Amaretto’s Charmed Nightmare. People are free to jump on and add their own blends of traits….and I would love to see their creations.

What special projects are you working on right now with your Amaretto Barnyard Birds?
The current pair of Barnyard birds is an effort to add the Onyx Beak and Legs to the White-Faced Black Spanish. I’ve gotten the beak to come out in OS but the legs haven’t appeared yet.

What is your favorite Amaretto Breedable?
The Horses…by far. It is the horses that have brought me back to SL twice. I just can’t seem to tear myself away from the Black Eye project and leaving it unfinished (haha…I know Amaretto will never let me complete it.)

What are some other things that you enjoy doing in Second Life when you’re not taking care of your breedables?

Well…Arrowjay…is an alt created to manage Justin’s breeding projects, and inventory of horses and bundles. Justin (Barocus Resident) is my main avatar…and they typically argue and pick on each other when logged on at the same time. While Arrowjay tends to the business at hand, Justin enjoys tinkering in minor building projects, dancing, listening to music, sharing the gospel, and spending time with friends. I enjoy seeing new sims, especially the breeding yards of other breeders. (You never know what little treasure someone has laying around.)

Well there you go!!
Thank you Arrowjay for letting me interview you this week!!

Until next week Happy Breeding!!

Spotlight on Barnyard Bird Creativity

Happy Thursday!  I want to shine my Spotlight today on the creativity of our Amaretto Community and hopefully inspire that creativity with a few ideas I have gathered.

The Amaretto has shown their creative prowess in the Horses with the Vampire Horses, Mermaid Horses, Tiramisu Horses, Batman Horses, Avatar Horses, and in the K-9’s with the Love Beagles and Toxic Dogs.  Well this week I am hoping to inspire the same type of creativity in the Barnyard Birds.  While it seems everyone is having a blast adding and matching the traits on the Birds I have not seen anyone speaking of Designer Birds.  Let’s change that!!

I have one that I have been working on that I am calling the Freedom Bird.  I like the Rhode Island White’s and the White Campine’s for this project.  I want it to have the Stars and Stripes Forever eye and the Patriot Legs.  These would also look amazing with either Cuprite or Azurite beaks.  I will attempt to add those now that I have the eye and leg together.  Check out how pretty this bird looks so far below.

Another idea that I love a lot is the Fire Fighter Bird.  This one would be a Rhode Island Red with Red Fury Eyes, Beak and Leg Cuprite and Brilliance!  Doesn’t this sound like a bird that is Hot, Hot, Hot!! Since this is just a concept so far I will tease you with a picture of a Rhode Island Red that has Subtle Brilliance.  Gorgeous!

Now with Christmas right around the corner what would be better than a Grinch Bird!  This one would be fun and easy to create!  A White Campine with Slime and double Malachite!  Below you can see pictures of the Malachite Leg on a White Campine with Slime and also of the double Malachite traits on a Gold Campine.  Now to only get these traits all on a White bird. Or as the Grinch would say “Do your worst, that’s all that matters!”

Please be sure to message me in world if you have been inspired to create your own Designer Birds and you just might see them here in the Spotlight one day!

Until next time Happy Breeding!
