Spotlight on Starters

Happy Thursday Everyone!  After last week’s major 5.0 Horse Update I thought it would be a good idea to shine the spotlight on the new starters!  Soon the first brand new 5.0 starters will be ready for their first round of breeding.  You all know the starters can give nice surprises, and let me tell you these 5.0 starters have me super excited!  The wait is a killer though right!

Often times I am asked what the right strategy for breeding starters is.  Well there are many ways to breed the starters to discover if they are hiding something new and special so let me tell you how I breed them.

Hopefully you remember my earlier blog, Spotlight on Cleaning, if not you can read it again at this link:

In that blog I talked about breeding basic horses referred to widely as “clean”. When you use these basic horses to breed with your starters it makes it easier to figure out what your new starters are hiding.  It also makes it easier to get offspring from your starters that aren’t normal mane/normal tail.  Now as it stated in the update notecard we have put the Gloom trait out to pasture which means it will no longer come from any of the starters. So that lets you know that if you put a “clean” horse without gloom in its pedigree with one of your new starters you probably won’t get gloom on any of the offspring.  Well unless it is hiding somewhere in the lineage of the “clean” horse somewhere just waiting to spring out and surprise you!  So by breeding my starters with basic horses if the starters are hiding something new I stand a better chance at getting on an already nicely traited horse!  Pretty cool huh!!!

Now some people like to throw all their new starters in a pile and let them just breed with each other and hope for something new.  Other people like to mix their starters with as high a trait horse as they can and hope that as many traits as possible pass to the offspring along with anything new that might be hiding.  Nothing wrong with this, everyone has their own way of doing things.  No matter how you decide to breed your starters I wish you all the best of luck in discovering whatever wonderful surprises they might be holding!

And if you are lucky enough to get something really cool from your starters be sure to come up with a plan for a new project!  New projects are as much as new starters!!

Until next time, Happy Breeding!!!
